A woman in the San Luis Valley, CO, got quite the natal
surprise this week when she gave birth to a baby that came a little bigger (and
earlier) than expected. Parents Alisha Hernandez and Francisco Garcia had been
signed up for a C-section for Thursday, December 5, and were expecting a
7-pound bundle of joy. Instead, the mother went into labor on Monday, and (via
C-section, thankfully) gave birth to a baby that was 22 inches long and a
whopping 13 pounds and 13 ounces.
The average weight of a newborn is around 7.5 pounds, which
makes Mia Yasmin Garcia the heavyweight champion of newborn babies.
